The story of Flying Eagles and AC Milan player, Harmony Ikande is laced with lots of ironies. He rejected his academic pursuit for football and he never played for any big time club before he moved to Europe. Recently, he was a last-minute invitee for the FIFA Under-20 World Cup currently going on in Egypt.
The youngster spoke about his childhood, the FIFA Under-20 World Cup, AC Milan and their prospects in Europe, the problem of racism among other issues.
Ikande pointed out the problem with youth football development in Nigeria and hinged it on spiritual matters. Enjoy the chat with the youth player!
11 Nigerians face federal charges for credit card scam
BOB VON STERNBERG
Eleven people have been charged in federal court in the Twin Cities with fraud for a counterfeit credit card scam that allegedly netted them more than $650,000.
The defendants were charged last week with using the bogus cards to withdraw the cash from more than 170 automatic teller machines in the metro area.
According to the criminal complaint filed last week in U.S. District Court, the defendants obtained personal information about customers of Capital One Bank from an online source based in the Ukraine.
With the stolen information in hand, the defendants allegedly manufactured the counterfeit cards with that information. They were then able to obtain new personal ID numbers from the bank which allowed them to withdraw $652,205 from the teller machines.
According to the complaint, some of the stolen money was converted into cashier checks and used to purchase vehicle parts or vehicles with salvage titles; the vehicles were then shipped to Nigeria, and sold at inflated prices.
Some of the defendants allegedly recruited Nigerian residents in Minneapolis to buy vehicles at auto auctions, giving them cash to make the purchases.
According to a U.S. Secret Service affidavit, one of the defendants bragged about how he could not "get caught conducting his illegal activity" because he was "very good at covering his tracks."
Charged with one count of bank fraud and one count of access device fraud are Adekunle Kayode Ayeni, 27, Yewande Mariam Sholebo, unknown age, Adewale Alba Alli, unknown age, Olayemi Lateef Banjoko, unknown age, Idowu Ayinla Sadiq, unknown age, Abiodun Banjoko, unknown age, and Oyetoyin Oseni Atobatele, unknown age, all of Fridley; along with Bashiru Adelumola Fowoshere, 36, and Titilayo Abidewi Fowoshere, unknown age, both of Ramsey; Oriyomi Enitan Olowosago, unknown age, Brooklyn Park; and Ajibola Alli Fowoshere, 34, address unknown.
Eight of the 11 were arrested last Friday, when they also made their initial court appearance. Three remain at large.
Last week the Ambassador of Greece in Nigeria, Mr. Haris Dafaranos and his wife, Haralambo, labelled Nigerians thieves, since then there has been no reaction whatsoever from the Nigerian authorities.
Mr. Dafaranos and his wife were at the reception area of Transcorp Hilton in Abuja on July 11 when the wife found a wristwatch, which a client of the hotel forgot while checking out.
She refused to hand over the wristwatch to the security personnel on duty at the reception who wanted to keep it for the owner. She said Nigerians were habitual thieves, she did not trust that the wristwatch would get to the owner. She refused to listen to the appeals of even the security manager on duty to turn in the wristwatch.
The arrival of Mr. Notore Kolagbodi, to claim his wristwatch did not change Mrs. Dafaranos’ mind. She wanted proof of ownership from Mr. Kolagbodi.
Hot exchanges between Nigerians and the woman did not bring her to her senses. She continued calling Nigerians thieves. Her husband supported her. “Nigerians are thieves. Can anyone of them deny that fact? What is the assurance that you guys did not connive to bring this fellow as the rightful owner of the wrist watch?,” Mr. Dafaranos asked?
The woman had to be persuaded to hand over the wristwatch after she had exhausted herself.
We think that the silence of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on this matter is worse than the undiplomatic behaviour of the Greek couple. If the Dafaranos think so contemptuously of Nigerians, they have no business being in this community a day longer. What informed their audacity? Is it the knowledge that they can abuse Nigerians and keep their positing?
This was not a one off unguarded statement. The ambassador and his wife were insistent on their abusive views about Nigerians. They should be made to realise that this type of conduct is below the conduct of a diplomat and is unacceptable, and one that surely deserves a recall of the couple.
It is appropriate for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to conduct a serious investigation into the behaviour of the Greek ambassador who before now was harping on the importance of the economic ties between Nigeria and his country.
People witnessed the incident, which was in an open area, the ever-busy Hilton reception lobby. They included the hotel security manager on duty during the incident. If the investigation indicts him, he should be deported immediately.
Greece also owes Nigerians an apology for sending them an ambassador who would abuse them, as if Greece is populated by only saints.
Nigerians who visit embassies in Nigeria for businesses are subjected to serial abuses. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs maintains a stoic silence on the conduct of these embassies. Indifference of government to the poor treatment Nigerians get at embassies could have emboldened Mr. Dafaranos and his wife.

Before six o'clock(6:00am) the next day, Ola was already in school. Not too long the hausa man came in and gave Ola a white powder. And queried Ola, "what kind off food does the small boy always eat?", Ola replied "only breast sir". The man went on " you will rub this thing around his step mother's nipple while she is unconscious, and if the baby sucks the breast he will die instantly. "But it's not easy!" Ola exclaimed. "Yes I know, now take this perfume. It's not an ordinary perfume, if you spray it any where and somebody inhales it. That fellow will sleep like a dead man. So spray it wherever your step mother can easily inhale it, then you accomplish your task".
Now you can imagine the kind of joy Ola is having. Ola thanks the security guard, gives him all the money he came to school with, his food and dashes home. But Ola has a problem, he can't easily carry out this task due to the presence of his father. So, he had to endure until after two days when his father traveled. That evening Ola quickly sprayed the perfume in the sitting room, with his nose tied while his step Mum was not yet around. At about fifteen minutes to one in the morning(12:45am), Ola went straight to his father's room, carefully opened the door and masterfully applied the poison. You can never imagine how happy Ola was. He rushed to his room and woke up very early. when he woke up at about twenty minutes past six in the morning(6:20am), he started hearing people crying. He quickly rushed down the upstairs where they were staying and learnt it was the security guard of his father that has just died. "What a mess" Ola thought. Now could you guess what went wrong?
